Doxycycline 100 mg is used to prevent Malaria. Doxycycline should be taken a day or two before traveling to a place where Malaria is prevalent, and continued for 4 weeks after leaving that place. However, the duration of this treatment should not be for more than 4 months. Take Doxycycline with a full glass of water, though you can take it regardless of food. The tablet should be swallowed whole, but for those who have difficulty in swallowing, the entire contents of the Doxycycline release capsule can be sprinkled on to a spoonful of applesauce that should be cool but soft. To get the best benefit, take your medication at evenly spaced intervals to keep the drug at a constant level in the bloodstream. Take this medication for the entire length of time prescribed by your doctor.
Do not use this medication if you are allergic to doxycycline, or to similar medicines such as demeclocycline (Declomycin), minocycline (Dynacin), or tetracycline. Before taking doxycycline, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease. You may not be able to take doxycycline, or you may need a dose adjustment or special tests during treatment. If you are using doxycycline to treat gonorrhea, your doctor may test you to make sure you do not also have syphilis, another sexually transmitted disease. Your symptoms may get better before the infection is completely treated.
