Montelukast sodium would provide a treatment option for children and adults with exercise induced asthma to prevent symptoms and reduce recovery time. Take 4mg by mouth, usually once daily with or without food or as directed by your doctor. Chew the tablet thoroughly before swallowing. If you are taking 4mg tablets for ongoing asthma, take your dose in the evening. If you are taking 4mg for allergies, take your dose at about the same time each day (either morning or evening). If you are taking 4mg for both asthma and allergies, take your dose in the evening. Montelukast is not subsidised in a child aged 2 to 5 years for use in combination with other preventer medications.
n drug-interactions studies, the recommended clinical dose of montelukast did not have clinically important effects on the pharmacokinetics of the following medicinal products : theophylline, prednisone, prednisolone, oral contraceptives, and warfarin. Caution should be exercised, particularly in children, when montelukast is co-administered with phenytoin, phenobarbital and rifampicin. A clinical drugdrug interaction study involving montelukast and rosiglitazone demonstrated that montelukast is not anticipated to markedly alter the metabolism of medicinal products metabolised by paclitaxel, rosiglitazone, and repaglinide.
